Gregory James, DO, MPH, FACOFP dist. Past President
Gregory James, DO, MPH, is the Medical Director for United Healthcare for the State of Florida in the Evercare Division. This position has medical and quality oversight responsibility for all United Healthcare patients residing in Skilled Nursing Facilities in the state.
Dr. James is the founding director of the Family Practice Residency Program at St. Petersburg General Hospital, and was previously the Residency Program Director at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Florida for over eight years. He also served Sun Coast Hospital as their Chief Of Staff for two years and on their Medical Executive Committee for over ten years.
He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) as well his Masters in Public Health (MPH) Degrees from Nova Southeastern University – College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU / COM) in Ft Lauderdale, FL. He is a Past President of their alumni association and received their alumnus of the year award.
Dr. James currently serves on the Board of Directors of the AOBFP (American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians). This is the National Certification Board for all Osteopathic Family Physicians.
Dr. James has received his fellowship and distinguished fellowship awards from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP).
Dr. James currently serves the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) as the President-Elect. He has been selected as Physician of the Year by FOMA, the Florida Society of the ACOFP, and by the PCOMS (Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society).
Dr. James is a Past President and has been the Educator of the Year of the Florida Society of the ACOFP. He has also been recognized several years in a row by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as a “Mentor of the Year”.
Dr. James is certified in Family Medicine, Geriatrics, and Long Term Care for Nursing Homes.
