Dr. Mayrene Hernandez joined UnitedHealth Group in 2012 as part of the South East Clinical Services Leadership Team. She originally started as an inpatient care management medical director. She was promptly promoted to her current role as the Sr. Market Medical Director in Florida. Her role is diverse with direct and indirect engagements with multiple sectors within a manage care organization. These include network contracting, value base programs, ACO’s and negotiations, case management programs and also as the guardian of quality programs in multiple products to include commercial employer groups, Medicare product lines, and also lending support to our Medicaid programs within the state.
Dr. Hernandez has a wide scope of clinical and administrative knowledge. Her experiences ranges from manage care MSO/Risk Contracting, billing/coding, CMS facilitator and EMR development and consultations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management and Administration from Florida International University and is certified in coding and billing services. She is Board Certified in Family Practice for well over 10 years also a practicing physician and historically a multiple business owner.
She holds the position of Clinical Assistant professor at Nova Southeastern University and enjoys being a mentor to future medical students. In 2016 she was awarded highest recognition bestowed to any alumni as the recipient of prestigious Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. She has also participated in multiple live radio shows and TV programs for the Hispanic community. Dr. Hernandez like many of our Latin American immigrants shares humble beginnings. At the age of eight she was part of the many Cuban immigrants who arrived in the 1980s via Mariel Boat Lift. She was the first female in her immediate family to succeed in completing a professional medical career. She is a proud mother of two beautiful adolescent daughters and a wife to her spouse Alberto Hernandez for over 24 years.
