Nicole Heath Bixler, DO, MBA, FACOFP Past President, 2016-2017
Nicole Heath Bixler, DO, MBA, FACOFP, is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at Frankford Hospitals in Philadelphia. While attending medical school, she earned her MBA in Health Administration at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. After working 3 years in the Philadelphia area, Dr. Bixler relocated to Spring Hill, Florida where she practices at Immediate Medcare and Family Doctor of Spring Hill. Her clinical practice focuses on the geriatric population with outpatient and inpatient services. She has been an advocate of Osteopathic Medicine by participating in leadership roles at the national, state and local levels. She currently serves on the Board of Governors for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) and chaired the Task Force on Enhanced Student Chapter Services. She is a Past President of the Florida Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and currently serves as a trustee on the Emeritus Board. For the FOMA, Dr. Bixler has served as Trustee and President of District 13 since 2010. She was appointed to the Florida State Physician Workforce Advisory Council by the State Surgeon General and served on that Council until 2015. She has served as a Clinical Preceptor for Rural Family Medicine to students from NOVA Southeastern University and LECOM-Bradenton Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine for the past 5 years. In her community she serves as the Scholarship Chair for the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Hernando County. She was awarded the Glass Ceiling Award from BPW in 2011, which recognizes women from Hernando County that excel and lead in traditionally male dominated professions. In 2011, she received her Fellow designation in the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and was awarded the Outstanding Young Osteopathic Physician of the Year. In 2012, she received the Family Physician of the Year Award from the Florida Society of ACOFP. In 2015, she was awarded the ACOFP Outstanding Female Leader Award. She is proud to be a full time practicing Family Physician in practice with her husband, Brian Bixler, MD. Her most prestigious position is mother and role model for their three daughters.
