CME Requirements

CME Requirements for Florida Relicensure

In order to retain their Florida licenses, osteopathic physicians must earn a set number of hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

  • Each physician must complete a total of 40 CME hours, 20 of which must be AOA Category 1-A.
  • Included in the 40 hours, there are five (5) mandatory hours required for Florida relicensure (each licensure period) 
  • 2 hours of Prevention of Medical Errors
  • 1 hour of Professional Medical Ethics & Florida Laws & Rules
  • 2 hours of Prescribing Controlled Substances (Opioid)
**For the April 1, 2022 - March 31, 2024, biennial renewal period, all of the CME required may be obtained by completion of courses offered in a distance-learning format.
  • In addition to the above 5 hours, you are required to take 2 hours of Domestic Violence every 3rd biennium. This may be taken by correspondence​.

CME Requirements for Florida Initial License

​FOR NEW LICENSEES ONLY:

  • 1 hour of HIV/AIDS must be taken before the end of your FIRST licensure renewal. All those that are not in their first two years of licensure are NOT REQUIRED to take an HIV/AIDS course.

REMEMBER: ​The FOMA offers both virtual and live meetings throughout the year where you can earn 1-A credits. The FOMA reports hours from our meetings to CE Broker and the AOA.

AOA CME GUIDE FOR OSTEOPATHIC PHYSICIANS

In order to retain their Florida licenses, osteopathic physicians must earn a set number of hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

To help Florida's osteopathic physicians earn these credits, the FOMA holds several meetings each year.  Our Annual Convention is held each spring and our Mid-Year Seminar is held each fall. We also hold meetings around the state throughout the year, which include the mandatory hours required for re-licensure.  Discounts on registration rates are available to all FOMA members.
