Professional Bio
Dr. Florent-Carre is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health at Nova Southeastern University’s Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-KPCOM), where she serves as Chair of the Department of Rural Medicine. In January 2025, she will assume the role of President of the Broward County Medical Association (BCOMA), where she has been an active member for over a decade. She also serves on the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) Board of Trustees as Director at Large and Chairs the FOMA Public Health Task Force. Additionally, she is a board member of the Florida Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FSACOFP).
Dr. Florent-Carre is a graduate of the Health Policy Fellowship certified by AACOM and Ohio Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. At NSU-KPCOM, she is the principal investigator of a USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grant and has led and supported several public health research projects. She holds a BS in Nutrition from the University of Florida (1994), an MPH from Florida International University (1999), and a DO from NSU-KPCOM (2005). She has served patients as an HIV specialist and provided care in rural areas, including Belle Glade, FL.
Her international outreach includes missions to Jamaica, Haiti, and Ecuador. She has been a speaker on population health and public health emergencies, including the Zika virus, appearing on Dateline Health, PBS’s “Viewpoint,” Island TV, and in publications such as the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel.
She has received numerous honors, including NSU-KPCOM’s “Passion for Excellence” alumni award, the Lakeside Medical Center Outstanding Mentor Award, and recognition by Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida’s Top Black Educators. Dr. Florent-Carre remains committed to community health, medical education, and leadership in the osteopathic profession.
