Professional Bio
Dr. Thacker began his career as a National Health Service Corp Scholar at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Madison, Florida, and later practiced internal medicine at Capital Regional Medical Group in Tallahassee for 23 years. He currently serves as Associate Dean of Clinical Resources at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Alabama.
He has held leadership roles as a medical director for several skilled nursing facilities, associate medical director for Big Bend Hospice, and chairman of the Board of Trustees for Capital Regional Medical Center. In 2015, he received the HCA Frist Humanitarian Award for community service and international medical mission work.
A member of FOMA since 1988, Dr. Thacker served as President (2006-2007) and was named FOMA’s “Physician of the Year” in 2008. He remains active on FOMA’s Board of Trustees and multiple committees, including finance and legislative affairs. Nationally, he is currently the AOA President Elect, serves on the AOA Board of Trustees, chairing committees on finance, governmental affairs, and education, and is Treasurer for the Osteopathic Political Action Committee.
Dr. Thacker resides in Dothan, Alabama, with his wife, Sherry, and children, Blake and Allison. He enjoys traveling, gardening, history, Green Bay Packers football, and cheering for the University of Florida Gators.
