Serving Those Who Served: Dr. Sassano Volunteers with First Coast Honor Flight

Joseph Sassano, D.O., FOMA First Vice-President, recently participated in a First Coast Honor Flight mission out of Jacksonville, Florida, continuing his three years of volunteer service with the organization.

On October 3, Dr. Sassano joined the team in escorting 22 Veterans from Jacksonville to Washington, D.C., where they visited memorials honoring their service, including the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial. The trip provided the Veterans an opportunity to reflect on their service and sacrifices at no cost to them.

This marked First Coast Honor Flight’s 10th mission, with Dr. Sassano having served as the mission’s medical physician on two occasions. His wife, Kelly Sassano, also participated as a Guardian, accompanying and supporting one of the Veterans throughout the journey.

First Coast Honor Flight is dedicated to honoring Veterans by providing opportunities to visit the memorials built in recognition of their service and sacrifice. These missions offer Veterans a chance to connect with fellow service members, reflect on their experiences, and receive the appreciation and recognition they deserve. The efforts of volunteers, medical professionals, and Guardians help make these meaningful journeys possible.

Dr. Sassano’s continued involvement reflects the importance of service and compassion beyond the medical profession. By volunteering his time and medical expertise, he helps ensure Veterans can participate in these experiences with the support they need. FOMA is proud to recognize Dr. Sassano’s dedication to his community and his commitment to honoring the men and women who have served our country.

Dr. Sassano is honored to support this meaningful mission and recognize the brave men and women whose service and sacrifices have helped preserve our freedoms.
