Florida Osteopathic Physician License Renewal Checklist

FL Licensure Period Ends March 31, 2026.

1. Complete Required CME

Make sure all continuing medical education is finished before you renew:

  • Each physician must complete a total of (40) CME hours, (20) of which must be AOA Category 1-A. The other 20 can be any type of CME.

  • Included in the 40 hours, there are (5) mandatory hours required for Florida re-licensure, which include:

    • (1) hour Florida Laws & Rules / Medical Ethics

    • (2) hours Prevention of Medical Errors

    • (2) hours Controlled Substance Prescribing

    • Every third biennium period, physicians are required to take (2) hours of Domestic Violence. Please contact CE broker for the biennium schedule.

    • For physicians completing their initial license renewal, they must take (1) hour of HIV/AIDS.

The FOMA offers both virtual and live meetings throughout the year where you can earn AOA category 1-A credits. The FOMA reports CME hours from each of our meetings to CE broker and the AOA for both members and non-members.

Tip: Confirm your CME is properly reported in CE Broker in case of an audit. All FOMA members get a free CE broker account as a member benefit!

2. Verify Fingerprints & Background Screening

  • Get your fingerprints done by an approved LiveScan Provider for background screening. Don't forget to bring your ORI number to your fingerprinting appointment!

While many Florida-licensed physicians have previously submitted to the state’s background screening requirements when applying for initial licensure, physicians licensed prior to January 2013 were exempt from this process. Effective July 1, 2025, HB 975 removes this exemption and requires all physicians to complete electronic fingerprinting prior to their next license renewal.
